Nobody wants to deal with a transmission problem in their vehicle, but you never know when you could be faced with this situation.
If you don’t know much about cars, you may find it difficult to diagnose a transmission problem on your own. Here are five signs that should never be ignored:
1. Slippage. If your transmission feels like it is slipping, you don’t want to wait too long to have your car inspected by a qualified mechanic. This is often times accompanied by the inability to accelerate as intended.
2. Rough shifts. Does your car lurch upon changing gears? Do you hear a thud or clunk as it shifts? Do you have a hard time getting up to speed? If any of these factors come into play, your transmission may need professional attention.
3. Delay after chang
ing gears. For example, you may notice a delay as you shift from “park” to “drive.” There should never be a delay when shifting.
4. Leak. There is no reason why your transmission should ever leak fluid. Transmission fluid is typically bright red, but can also be brown or a darker shade of red. Rather than refill the fluid and hope for the best, you should find out what is causing the problem.
5. Check engine light. If this light shows up on your dashboard it is time to drive directly to your mechanic. A warning light can signify an issue with your transmission, as well as many other parts of your vehicle.
