Driver Safety Tips for School Season

With school season here, drivers all over the country need to change their approach during the morning and afternoon hours. It is at these times that students of all ages are waiting at bus stops, crossing streets, and making their way to and from school in a bus.

As a driver, there are things you can do to reduce the likelihood of being involved in an accident. Here are a few tips to keep in mind:

  • Be aware of what is going on around you at all times, including students who may be standing close to the street or crossing.
  • When backing out of a driveway or parking spot, watch for children who may be making their way to or from school.
  • Pay attention to school zones and make sure you follow the rules of the road, such as slowing down when the lights are blinking.
  • You should never pass a school bus, as this is illegal and you never know when a student may be crossing in front of the vehicle.
  • If you are transporting your child to and from school, make sure they are wearing a seatbelt and/or riding in an approved child safety seat.

The school season brings a lot of joy to many students (and parents) all over the country. At the same time, there are accidents that occur every year involving motor vehicles and students. These can lead to serious injury or even death.

The five driver safety tips above will help keep students in your area safer during the school season. And as you know, there is nothing more important than that.
