At Fairfax Auto Repair, we offer a variety of services to ensure that your vehicle is ready for anything the winter weather throws its way. Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do to stop the fog from descending on the area from time to time.
If you are driving in heavy fog, here are a few safety tips to keep in mind:
- Use fog lights if available. If your vehicle is equipped with this safety feature, there is no point in ignoring it. Fog lights cast a wide, shallow beam pattern. This makes it easier to see the road in front of you, despite heavy fog.
- Leave more distance between other vehicles. Since you will need more time to stop due to poor visibility, this is an absolute must. The more space you can leave the better. Along with this, avoid passing other vehicles unless it is absolutely necessary.
- Monitor the condition of your windshield. Due to the increased moisture in the air, moisture could collect on your windshield, which will make it more difficult to see. Let your windshield wipers and defroster work in your favor.
With winter in full swing, don’t be surprised if you find yourself driving in heavy fog from time to time. As scary as this may be, you can increase your level of safety by following the three tips above.
