For the next few weekends, parents all over America will be sending their beloved young adults off to college again. To ease the worry and anxiety of parents, and give our young drivers a leg up, we’ve put together a checklist for students heading back to school. Our recent blogs have covered car buying, safety, and maintenance, and now we’re giving you everything you need to know about your trip back to campus!
- Do a self-checklist. Before heading out on the road, make sure you have everything you need. Try to avoid turning around or driving in circles by double-checking all your items before you leave your driveway.
- Get your car serviced. If your family already has a relationship with a repair or service center, it may be best to have your car serviced before hitting the road. Be sure to pay special attention to your brakes, transmission, and cooling systems as these can cause a major headache for you while you're away.
- Plan out your trip. Plan for traffic, inclement weather, and any other incidents that may delay your journey back to campus. In order to avoid overloading your vehicle, find out if you can have some of your larger items pre-shipped to your dorm so they’ll be there when you arrive.
- Prepare for the worst. Make sure while on campus you have access to your insurance, registration, and title in the event your car is stolen, towed, or worse, you have an accident. Keep a first aid kit, a spare tire, jumper cables, and a jack in your truck in case of a blow out or dead battery.
Remember, mom and dad won't always be around to look over your shoulders and keep you on track. While maintaining and caring for a vehicle can be a large responsibility, proper planning and knowledge can make it all much easier on you. For more back to school tips, follow us on Twitter and Facebook.
