Has it been a while since you took a close look at your tires? While you may assume they are in good condition, until you complete a thorough examination there is no way of knowing for sure.
Note: if you don’t know what you are looking at or don’t have the time, schedule an appointment with FAR. We are more than happy to inspect every aspect of your tires to ensure that they are in good working condition.
Even if you don’t know much about tires, here are three things to look for when checking the condition:
1. Signs of uneven wear or damage. This can include, but is not limited to cracks, cuts, punctures, and splits. If anything looks out of the norm, it is time to have a professional provide you with advice. Some damaged tires can be repaired, but others need to be replaced.
2. Check all four tires. Don’t automatically assume that just because one tire is in good condition that the rest of them are the same. You should closely examine each tire, on all sides, for signs of wear and damage.
3. Penny upside down test. In short, your tread depth should be greater than the distance from the top of Lincoln’s head to the top of the penny. If you are able to see the top of his head, it is time to consider a tire replacement.
Many people get into the habit of buying new tires and leaving them be for months on end, never examining them. You may be able to get away with this, but you could also be taking a big risk.
If you cannot remember the last time you checked your tires, do so today or contact us for more information and to schedule an appointment.
