Shorter days, cooler nights, and autumn leaves drifting in the wind. Fall has officially arrived, and here at Fairfax Auto Repair, we always want to keep you in the know about tips for routine car care and safe driving as the weather changes throughout the year.
Are you Ready for Autumn Driving?
Last month we presented a series of Fall Car Care Month maintenance tips, and we hope you read them. Stranded on the side of the road with a dead battery, a flat tire, or failed brakes is no way to spend your November. If you let October come and go without vehicle maintenance, consider some of these checkups as soon as you can this month:
Check the battery and charging system. Any battery more than 3 years old should be replaced, as it’s in danger of not holding a charge any more. Any battery, regardless of age, should have its connections cleaned and checked and its capability tested.
Check tires for wear and pressure. Fall leaves are beautiful, and autumn rains are cool and refreshing, but both make the roads slippery, and a tire without adequate grip could have a hard time holding onto the road.
Check brake linings, rotors, etc. Brake pads can last anywhere from 30,000 – 80,000 miles, typically – the true lifespan varies widely depending on your driving habits, the manufacturer, and your particular vehicle. Checking your brakes regularly could save a costlier rotor repair later.
Here at Fairfax Auto Repair, our goal is always to provide you with car care you can count on – and that’s something to be thankful for this month! Check back in for more Autumn safety tips, and if your vehicle is in need of service, schedule an appointment today.
