Power Steering

If you grew up driving in the 1960s and 1970s, chances are your first ride did not have power steering. Back then, power steering was an expensive option on new cars, and it was far from common.

These days, power steering is far more common, and it is unusual to find a car, truck or SUV that lacks it. If your power steering goes out, you will know it, and younger drivers may not have the skills, or the strength, to operate their vehicles without that power assist.

Protect Your Driving Safety

Modern vehicles are designed to work with power steering systems, and the loss of that power assist is a real blow to driving safety. Without help from the power steering pump, the vehicle will be much harder to steer, and that could put the driver’s safety at risk.

If you suspect a problem with your power steering, you need to have it addressed right away. Issues with power steering will only get worse over time, and the longer you wait the more you put your safety at risk. At Fairfax Auto Repair, we can find those power steering problems when they are still minor, before they put your driving safety at risk.

Check for Leaks

Problems with your power steering can start off subtly, and they often begin with a small leak in the system. You may not notice that tiny leak until the issue is well advanced, so it is important to include leak detection as part of your normal vehicle inspection process.

Even if your power steering appears to be functioning normally, it never hurts to check the system for leaks when you bring your car, truck or SUV in for service. Just ask your mechanic to check your power steering system for leaks, assess the state of the fluid and make other visual inspections.

At Fairfax Auto Repair, we know what to look for, and how to spot looming power steering problems early.
